Choices. . .For YOUth!
Ohio Achievement
Record
Any 4-H member, age 14 or older as
of December 31, 2006, may complete an Ohio Achievement Record (OAR).
Completed forms are due to the Extension Office by Friday, January 19,
2007. These forms are used to select trip winners for Leadership
Camp, Sea Camp and Citizenship Washington Focus. These trips are
sponsored by local businesses and organizations.

Scholarships
The Ohio 4-H Scholarship application
for high school seniors is due to the Extension Office by Friday,
January 19, 2007.
Applications are judged at the state
level and scholarships range from $500 to $1000.

Ohio 4-H Teen Conference
The second annual Ohio 4-H Teen Conference
will be held Saturday, February 17, 2007, at the Greater Columbus Convention
Center, from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Nearly 100 workshops will be offered,
and teens will have the chance to network with other 4-H teens from across
the state.
Registration information will be available
from our office
after November 1, 2006.
All 4-H teens are invited to attend.

Citizenship
Washington Focus
This program includes a week of workshops
and programs at the National 4-H Center, an actual visit with congressional
representatives and senators and visits to historic sites, museums and
monuments in the Washington D. C. area. Participants will also enjoy
a variety of exciting hands-on opportunities in our nation’s capital.
Members will travel with 4-Hers from
our congressional district, and have the opportunity to meet other 4-H
youth from across the nation.

Ohio 4-H Sea Camp
This event brings together youth who
are interested in environmental education, recreational water safety, conservation
and aquatic science. Participants will also take part in activities
which help develop positive self-esteem, decision making and appreciation
of the Great Lakes as an important water resource.
Participants will have the opportunity
to enjoy fishing, scuba, snorkeling, astronomy, aquatic biology, navigation
practices, power boating, swimming, charter boat fishing and much more!

Ohio 4-H Leadership
Camp
This is a once-in-a-lifetime, exciting,
challenging, in-depth, learning by doing leadership development
experience.
Leadership campers plan, conduct and
evaluate the program themselves. Opportunities include experiences
focusing on daily leadership themes and options for campers, in such areas
as leadership skills, local and county programs and ideas, cultural heritage
and citizenship, communications, careers and personal development.
Campers will experience evening programs,
inspirational services and opportunities for leadership development.

Darke
County Scholarship Opportunities
Darke County has several scholarship
opportunities for both 4-H members and Junior Fair exhibitors. If
you will be graduating with the Class of ‘07, check with our office in
early spring, for local scholarship opportunities.
Available scholarships include The
Lori Williams Memorial 4-H Scholarship, The Darke County 4-H Committee
Scholarship, Jr. Fair Rabbit, Goat and Lamb Scholarships, to name a few.

Carving New Ideas
Carving New Ideas (CNI) is a motivational,
leadership workshop designed and sponsored by The Ohio State University
Collegiate 4-H Club, December 8-10, at 4-H Camp Ohio.
This year’s theme is “Pirates.”
The weekend will feature a variety of activities to build leadership and
communication skills.
High school youth, grades 9-12, are
invited to attend. There is a registration fee of $80.00.
The registration deadline is November
10, 2006. Late registrations will be accepted with a $5.00 increase
in registration fee. Registration information is available from our

County Medal Awards
4-H members may apply for county medals
by completing the County Medal Form. This form is similar to the
Ohio Achievement Record, and will be due to our office by Friday, January
19, 2007.
Medals are available to members who
demonstrate outstanding achievement in a particular project area.
Awards are available for 30+ project areas. Forms are available from
our office or on
line.
Medals will be awarded at the County
Recognition and Kick Off program, held in the spring.

State 4-H Ambassador
All Ohio 4-Hers are eligible who:
a) are a high school freshman, sophomore, junior or senior on January 1
of the year of application; b) have achieved the standards of excellence
outlined as criteria for the program; c) have a permanent residence in
Ohio at the time they participate in the program; d) have not previously
been a State 4-H Ambassador. To apply for this opportunity, members
need to complete a State 4-H Ambassador application form.
Applications may be obtained from
our office or found online.
Applications must be turned into our
office no later than January 19, 2007.

4-H Camp Counselor
Any 4-H member, age 15 and older as
of January 1, 2007, may apply to be a Darke County 4-H Camp Counselor.
All interested teens must submit their
completed application to the Extension Office no later than December 1,
2006.
All applications will be reviewed
and new counselors, only, will be interviewed on Tuesday, December 5.
This year there will be three counselor
opportunities: 4-H Camp, Horse Camp and Cloverbud Day Camp. Potential
counselors may apply for one or more of these opportunities.

Darke County 4-H
CARTEENS
CARTEENS is a driver education program
presented to teens with first-time traffic violations. Teens, age
15 and older, are needed to help with the presentation of the program.
CARTEENS is held the second Saturday
of each month, beginning at 9:00am, at the Extension Office.
CARTEENS is a great way to obtain
community service hours, for those of you looking for a way to fulfill
graduation requirements.

Ohio 4-H Teen Council
The Ohio 4-H Teen Council is a statewide
group of outstanding 4-H teens and young 4-H alumni selected to provide
a youth perspective in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Ohio
4-H programming.
Any 4-H teen or young 4-H alumni,
age 15 or older as of January 1, may apply. A copy of the application
may be obtained from our office or found online.
The
application deadline is January 19, 2007, to the State 4-H Office.
