Buckeye Animal Sciences Experience
The Department
of Animal Sciences, at The Ohio State University, invites high school students
to explore their interest in animals at its annual Buckeye Animal Sciences
Experience (BASE). This event will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008.
During BASE, students will learn what it’s really like to be a Buckeye.
They’ll discover how they can get involved in student organizations and study
abroad.

The Sixth
Annual Youth Pork Leadership Institute will be held June 8-10, in Columbus,
Ohio.
Highlights
from last year’s institute include a tour of Routh Packing, taste testing
in the Bob Evans test kitchen and learning about meat quality at the OSU Meat
Lab.
Participants
must be between the ages of 16 and 21 and not have attended last year’s program.
There is
no cost to attend, as expenses are covered by OPPC, the Pork Checkoff and
the Ohio Soybean Council.

FFA Market
Livestock Forms were mailed to each FFA advisor two weeks ago.
These forms
are to be completed and returned to our office by April 30, 2008.
Information
on these forms is used by the Junior Fair Livestock Sale Committee to update
their database.

Champions Choice Show Camp
A Champions
Choice Jr. Showman Camp will be held at the Ohio State Fairgrounds, May 9-11,
2008. This camp is open to those interested in learning more about showing
lambs, hogs or steers.
Topics
include nutrition, management, showmanship, fitting, ethics and more.
Instructors
include Kirk Stierwalt, from Oklahoma, on showing steers and heifers; Terry
Burks, from Kentucky, on showing pigs; and Chad Charmason, from Oklahoma,
on showing lambs.
