OSUE Logo   The Food Guide Pyramid

Now that you know what the Dietary Guidelines are for Americans, ages two and older, you can use the Food Guide Pyramid to put them into action.  The Food Guide Pyramid was developed by the United States Department of Agriculture to illustrate how to make the best food choices to promote good health.  It outlines what to eat each day.  It shows you that by eating a variety of foods each day you can get the nutrients that you need and the right amount of calories to maintain a healthy weight.  It is in the shape a pyramid shape to explain the different proportions of foods to one another.  The foods that you need to eat the most are at the biggest part or the base of the pyramid.  As you go up the pyramid, the amounts get smaller as the pyramid gets skinnier.Food Guide Pyramid
