2024 FRIDAY SAMPLER
Please join us on Friday, August 23, 2024 at The Friday Sampler as we celebrate The Art of Quilting. This event will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Youth Building at the Great Darke County Fair. This is a free event, open to all community members. This is the thirty-ninth year for The Friday Sampler at the Darke County Fair, sponsored by the 2024 Darke County Agricultural Society and the OSU Extension, Darke County.
Quilting is a tradition that has been passed down through the generations. As time has passed techniques have been modernized. Join us as we learn about both modern and traditional techniques.
Is the term “locavore” new to you? This term is used to describe a person who eats food locally whenever possible.
We will feature a community discussion on “What is locavore and what does it mean to you?” Information will be shared by speakers from local farms, local business owners, and local chefs. Find out how this movement impacts our economy, our health, and our happiness.
9:00 a.m. - Welcome - Tina McGillvary, Emcee; Kathy Street, Towne Squares Quilt Club, Treasurer
9:30 a.m. - “From Scraps to Fab” - Linda McGlothlin
11:00 a.m. - “The Flora Homestead” - Brian and Shannon Flora

"FROM SCRAPS TO FAB" - Linda McGlothlin’s quilting experience started over 45 years ago. Her love of sewing and fabric started in 4-H and continued in school with home economics. Throughout the years, Linda has attended workshops with many skilled craftsmen. She transitioned from being a student to teaching quilt classes in the 90’s. While Linda shares many quilts and stories at the Friday Sampler, her hope is to share her joy of quilting with some laughs and maybe even a few tears.
"THE FLORA HOMESTEAD" - Brian and Shannon Flora are the owners of The Flora Homestead in Greenville, Ohio. The Flora’s will describe their part of the growing LocaVore Movement. How supporting local, helps our family, our health, our neighbors, our farmers and our Darke County.
"NATURE'S COLORS" - Tammy M. Burke, MFA, works in many media. In her classes, a student gets experience in as well as historical context for the presented processes. She shares her own enthusiasm for what has led her to teach others processes that are fun or amazing. Burke, an exhibiting artist, also teaches beginner sewing classes, natural dyeing, as well as fine arts classes in the Indiana University system.
See you at the Great Darke County Fair!
