ESSAY TOPICS
If an exhibitor is unable to attend the skillathon dates above, they may submit an essay. Essays are due to the Secretary’s Office under the grandstand on the fairgrounds by August 1. No late entries will be accepted.
Unless specified differently, essays should be a minimum of 500 words based on the topic listed below.
Beef - To be announced
Dairy - To be announced
Dog - List 5 of the k-9 good citizenship test items and explain their importance.
Goat - Research and discuss three market goat and three dairy goat breeds.
Horse - To be announced
Poultry - 'The Effect of Avian Influenza on the Poultry Industry' - Juniors ages 8-11 must write an essay with a minimum of 250 words; Intermediate/Seniors, ages 12-18 must write an essay with a minimum of 500 words.
Rabbit - 'Grooming and Preparing Your Rabbit for Fair' - Juniors ages 8-11; 'How to Make Your Rabbitry Profitable' - Intermediate/Senior age 12 and over
Sheep - Juniors ages 8-11: Fitting and Preparing your Sheep Project for Fair (minimum of 250 words) - Intermediate/Seniors ages 12 and over: Select a sheep disease(s) and explain how it affects the sheep industry. (minimum of 500 words)
Swine - Essay based on information found in Chapter 12: 'Showing Your Market Hog' - Juniors ages 8-11 must write an essay with a minimum of 250 words; Intermediate/Seniors, ages 12-18 must write an essay with a minimum of 500 words.
